Annual Events in Pitlochry
Etape Caledonia - 21st May 2017
Starting in Pitlochry, the route takes cyclists north a few miles and then heads west as far as Bridge of Gaur, at the far western end of Loch Rannoch. At this point, the riders head east and south passing through the pretty conservation village of Fortingall, along the River Tay through Aberfeldy to Ballinluig, from where they start on the home stretch back to Pitlochry.
The Atholl Gathering and Highland Games - 27 May 2017
The Atholl Gathering takes place on the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May every year. This unrivalled spectacle gives locals and visitors alike the chance to participate in a unique Highland tradition that has persisted for generations. The two day Atholl Gathering weekend consists of The Atholl Highlanders' Parade on Saturday followed by the Highland Games on Sunday.
Pitlochry Highland Games - 09 September 2017
This organisation has been hosting competitors and captivating spectators since being re-established in 1852. The event has increased in popularity over the years and nowadays draws crowds of over 5,000, not including the competitors, judges and event staff. A number of competitions are held including Tug o’ War, highland dancing, piping and band competitions, high jump as well as numerous running and cycling events and many more. The ‘Heavy’ events include ‘putting’ or throwing the 16lb, 22lb, 28lb and 56 lb stones and hammers either by distance or over a bar. You can expect to enjoy a full day of competitive and traditional sport, fun for the entire family.
